Recently, VIBM has participated in the Camarsec project on “Researching Climate-Responsive Materials for Vietnam’s Socio-Economic Context” (2019-2023) and the Rebumat project on “Resource-Efficient and Sustainable Construction Materials” in collaboration with partners from Germany (2021-2024). These projects have been implemented to support the advancement and future development of energy-efficient construction practices, resource conservation, and sustainable development in Vietnam.
Currently, the research components of the projects have been completed. To further strengthen research cooperation between VIBM and its partners, a working session was held at VIBM on May 15, 2024, where German and Vietnamese experts exchanged ideas and developed content for future projects.
The session was attended by: Prof. Dirk Schwede (TH Lübeck), Dr. Simon Schmidt (IBP), Mr. Andreas Zegowitz (IBP), Prof. Virak Han (Cambodian Institute of Technology), and other experts. Representing VIBM were: Dr. Nguyen Quang Hiep (President), Dr. Luu Thi Hong (Vice President), and representatives from the Center for Equipment, Environment & Labour Safety.
Through the collaboration with German partners, VIBM’s staff have been trained to enhance their capabilities in testing thermal properties of materials both in Vietnam and Germany, and in field-testing to assess thermal and moisture transfer properties of materials under real conditions in Vietnam. Additionally, the project provided VIBM with a construction material thermal conductivity measurement device. With this support, VIBM’s laboratory is now capable of testing all thermal properties of various construction materials. The capabilities of the new laboratory have also been evaluated through comparative research tests between VIBM and IBP on the same type of material.
Dr. Nguyen Quang Hiep gives a speech at the working session.
In his speech at the working session, Dr. Nguyen Quang Hiep thanked the project team for their significant support to VIBM in research and capacity building for both VIBM and its staff. The President praised the cooperation between the parties and expressed hope that, in the future, both German and Vietnamese partners will work together to initiate and implement more projects.
Representing the German side, project team leader Prof. Dirk Schwede expressed his pleasure in collaborating with VIBM over the past period. The professor highly valued VIBM’s capabilities in the two recent projects and mentioned that there are many potential research topics for future cooperation between Germany and VIBM. Through the cooperation content and results between VIBM and Germany, the Cambodian expert team also recognized opportunities and potential ways for collaboration with VIBM, and both sides will continue to discuss and develop specific cooperation programs. On behalf of the German and Cambodian experts, Prof. Dirk thanked VIBM for hosting the delegation and expressed hope for a follow-up working session in the near future.
At the end of the working session, Prof. Dirk awarded a certification of experimental training to researcher Nguyen Thi Thuy Linh from the Center for Equipment, Environment & Labour Safety after her study and research in Germany. The delegation also took a tour of VIBM’s working environment and facilities.
