On June 21, 2024, the Institute of Building Materials (VIBM) held a working session with businesses to discuss collaboration in promoting the gradual replacement of traditional bricks with Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (AAC) in Vietnam, towards a sustainable, carbon-neutral economy.
Representatives from government agencies included Mr. Le Trung Thanh, Head of the Building Materials Department, and Mr. Nguyen Quang Hiep, Director of VIBM, along with representatives from the Cement and Concrete Institute. From the business sector, attendees included Mr. Ly Ve, Chairman of the Chinese Business Association in Hai Phong, Mr. Muon Quan, CEO of Dong Chu Construction Materials Company Limited, and Mr. Nguyen Anh Dung, Managing Director of Minh Duc Concrete and Construction Company Limited.
Opening the session, Mr. Le Trung Thanh praised the collaboration between Vietnamese and Chinese enterprises in establishing an AAC block production plant in Vietnam. He highlighted issues related to AAC materials, noting that while Vietnam has had AAC block production plants since 2005, challenges such as the continued prevalence of fired clay bricks and construction-related technical issues have caused difficulties. As a result, only four AAC production plants are currently operational.
In response to these challenges, the Vietnamese government has shown interest in managing and incentivizing investments in AAC production and research on scientific and technological solutions to enhance the quality of non-fired materials, including AAC. Businesses are encouraged to collaborate with VIBM to research and produce AAC products that meet standard requirements and are suitable for Vietnam's environment and climate.
As a leading research institution in Vietnam for AAC development, VIBM is committed to supporting businesses in building factories and applying advanced scientific and technological advancements to AAC materials. Mr. Nguyen Quang Hiep, Director of VIBM, affirmed the Vietnamese government's support and prioritization of AAC development, highlighting legal mechanisms that provide incentives. The current AAC market is expansive, with extensive research and technical guidelines contributing to significantly minimizing construction technical errors, making it a preferred choice for many investors. Establishing AAC production plants holds promise for benefiting both investors and the Vietnamese market.
As a bridge between government agencies, businesses, and citizens, VIBM pledges to continue providing legal clarification, technical research support, and construction consulting to ensure that high-quality products reach consumers and comply with state standards.
