An artificial gypsum – the additive for cement production from The flue gas desulfurization in the Phalai thermal power plant JSC

Gypsum is an important additive for cement production and the natural gypsum is the most popular in the world. Because of the lack of natural gypsum, Vietnamese cement producers have to use the imported gypsum, the annual amount of that will get about 2 million tones in the coming years.

Because of the lack of natural gypsum, Vietnamese cement producers have to use the imported gypsum, the annual amount of that will get about 2 million tones in the coming years. Besides the use of natural gypsum, the cement production also uses artificial gypsum which made from industrial wastes as a result of the producing artificial gypsum together with environment treatment.
Vietnam Institute for building materials (VIBM) has cooperated the Phalai thermal power plant JSC to apply the flue gas desulfurization (FGD) technology and got the artificial gypsum having the stable quality (the amount of SO3 is up 37% in the gypsum and classifying as the gypsum of grade 2 according to building standard TCXD 168:1989).
The scientific council of VIBM has accepted the Draft of research project Report “ The research on using the artificial gypsum from flue gas desulfurization at Phalai thermal power plant as the additive in cement production” on March,18.2008.
This RD work is emerged from the practice requirement. The research results have been applied in the practice manufacture and getting the socio- economic efficiency and environment treatment meaning.
The result of this RD can be applied widely at other thermal power plants using coal fuel to get man made gypsum as the additive supplementing imported natural gypsum in cement production.
